BARTLETT—Large; yellow; juicy, fine-grained, buttery, sweet, aromatic and of good flavor; vigorous; very productive; commencing to bear when quite j'oung. One of the most profitable. BEURRE GIFFORD—Medium; pale yellowish green, with dull reddish brown cheek; juicy, sweet; of good flavor; a desirable variety. BRAXDYWINE—Large; russet yellow, with a dull red cheek ; sweet, juicy and melting, witb a pleasant per- fumed flavor. CLAPP'S FAVORITE—Large ; pale yellow, with crimson, cheek; juicy, melting, rich and vinous flavor; does best on light soil. DOYENNE D'ETE—Small; nearly round; yellow, with red cheek; a good, juicy, sweet pear; tree vigorous and productive. One of the very earliest varieties. LAWSON, or COMET—A new extra-early pear of medium size, though of indifferent quality;'its beautiful ap- pearance, great productiveness and early bearing cause it to be a valuable market variety.
