A true architectural gem, the dome atop 40-story 35 E. Wacker Drive Building (also known as the Jewelers Building). The structure, completed in 1927, with its very distinctive dome, is an official Chicago Landmark. The dome presently serves as a a private conference room and showroom for architect Helmut Jahn but was once a restaurant called the Stratosphere Lounge that was a Prohibition-era speakeasy operated by Al Capone. The building, and especially the dome, have been featured in a number of movie productions.
