In the trenchdriven along the eastern wall, as givenin section No. 1565, is a remarkablediagonal Assuring of the wood-ashesunder the basement of one of thealtars, which may possibly be due tolateral pressure. A fragment of sun-dried brick fromone of the altar-floors has four curiousmarks upon it, evidently imprintedby the hoofs of some animal, probablya kid, while the white clay was stillplastic (No. 1566). Near the gateway the old massivewall has been partly destroyed, and alow wall has been built upon it, in theform of a curve, and crossing both the _n. B ///x//////////y//////////////// nock No. 1565.
