Private Gullermo Garcia, a Mexican soldier, was born in Las Cruces, New Mexico. At the age of 18, he weighed 146 pounds and stood at a height of 5 feet 10 inches. He spoke both Spanish and English and had received 3 years of education in American public schools. Prior to enlisting, Garcia worked as a farmer, owning a 50-acre farm. He first enlisted in Co. A, 1st New Mexico Later, he joined the 125th Infantry in Argonne, but became sick during the "Hike into Germany." Garcia was described as slow-to-understand and suspicious. The photograph was taken in Huf, Germany on January 20, 1919.
