Wright biplane, historical diagram. The brothers Wilbur Wright (1867-1912) and Orville Wright (1871-1948) made the first powered flight on 17th December 1903. This design is consistent with the Wright Model A aircraft, built from 1908 onwards. It had a wingspan of 11 metres and a crew of two. Around 60 aircraft of this design were built. The forward direction of the aircraft is at top, with the tail at bottom, elevators at top, and propellers behind the wings. Artwork from 'Aerostation - Aviation' (1911) by French civil engineer Max de Nansouty (1854-1913), part of the 'Les merveilles de la science' series of 1867-1891 by Louis Figuier.
