American military artist Captain Andre Smith created an official drawing of the village of Courteau in August 1918. The village is located on the eastern slope of Hill 204, providing a view of Chateau-Thierry and the Marne Valley. This drawing was utilized by the American military during World War One and was approved by the censor on November 30, 1918.
