The American text-book of obstetrics for practitioners and students . inary case of bilateralfracture of the pubic rami in which there was union with callus-formation onone side and an ununited fracture on the other, the fragments moving on oneanother 2 or 3 centimeters when the woman walked. Caries and Necrosis.—The only effect of this disease of the pelvic hone-is the production, in rare cases of tuberculosis of a sacro-iliac joint, of anoblique contraction of the pelvis. When the sacro-iliac joint is affected theultimate result is the same as that produced by imperfeel development of thesacral al:e in a true Naegele pelvis. There is loss of tissue, ankylosis of thejoint, and an arrest of development in the affected part if the disease occur- inearly childhood. Ankylosis and Relaxation of the Pelvic Joints.—Synostosis maydevelop in any of tho pelvic joints ; in the symphysis it occur- not infrequently, and often at an early age. A number of operators have encountered this dif-ficulty in attempt- recently to perform symphysiotomy. If synostosis of the sacro-iliac joint develops in the individuals earlychildhood, it is followed by ill development of the sacral alse on the affectedside, and of that portion of the innominate bone concerned in the formationof the joint, an obliquely-contracted pelvis of the Naegele type being theresult; but such cases are rarer than those in which lack of development in thesacral alae is the primary occurrence. If the synostosis of the joint occursafter puberty, the effect upon the pelvis and upon the course of labor is prac-tically nil. If both joints are early ankylosed, a form of laterally-contractedpelvis like the Robert pelvis is the result. This kind of contracted pelvis israrer than t
