Fractal geometry. Computer graphics image of a fractal generated from a Newtonian polynomial solving equation. This coloured image is formed by plotting the equation using real and imaginary parts as coordinates. The colour of each point depends upon its behaviour under a series of simple repeated mathematical operations or mappings. The patterns are infinitely complicated, appearing the same on whatever scale they are viewed. The study of such \chaotic\" behaviour is now used to model real-world processes such as climate systems."
