Plants: The Egyptian Sacred Lotus, aka Indian lotus, Egyptian bean or simply lotus (Nelumbo nucifera) is one of two extant species of aquatic plant in the family Nelumbonaceae. The Sacred Lotus grows up to m (8 ft) in water. All parts of the plant, rhizomes, seeds, stems, leaves and flowers are suitable for human consumption.
