The Historic Cottage in Flea Bay Akaroa New Zealand was the original homesteaders cottage when the Bay was first farmed. It recently formed part of the accomodation used by Pohatu Penguins as guest accomodation. The cottage had been inspected and had failed to meet current standards for being safe in an earthquake. It was very basic, some soalr lighting, an open fire for heating, water from a nearby spring and bottled gas for cooking. Sanitation was via a "long drop" earth closed some 50 metres away across a field. It was a great place for dark skies.
