Currently Charleroi is undergoing major construction to build a new lock chamber, 84 feet wide by 720 feet long. Nogy reminds his team to treat the existing land chamber as one of their own children. Without an auxiliary chamber in place, the navigation team keeps industry moving through their lock while construction continues on the new chamber. Outside of scheduled maintenance closures, Nogy's team has kept the landside chamber operational without any unexpected delays or shutdowns since 2004.
