Anyone who has been in one of the galleries of Europe, and whohappens to have turned some day from a great picture whichhe has been admiring to glance at the copyists who areworking from it, can realise the difference that must haveexisted between the fresco of the Aldobrandini Marriage, forexample, and the painting which was its prototype.
