Our first deal in horseflesh in Manitoba. Canada. Cartoons 1892 ILN full page

Our first deal in horseflesh in Manitoba 1. Three colonial settlers, pining for lady society, on their way to a Lawn-tennis party at " The Cross," are chaffed by a gig-keeping neighbour because they go on foot. 2. Next week they buy a "plug," which in the local dialect, being interpreted, ineans some kind of horse, 2. The untamed animal which none of them could ride, is harnessed to a "buckboard," and proves not less dificult to dirve, 4. Catastrophe in driving - though tim held the ribbons, while Joe and I held the horse in check, 5. And this was the experince of attempting to ride: an enteratining spectacle for the lawn-tennis party, 6. One of us was deputed to offer the "plug" for sale to any neighbour wanting a safe and serviceable beast. Artist/engraver/cartographer: Unsigned . Provenance: The Illustrated London News. Type: Antique wood-engraved print. Illustrated London News full page from 2 April 1892.
