Honey bee pesticide research. Researcher selecting honey bees (Apis mellifera) for a study into the effects of pesticides on their behaviour. Each bee is fitted with a radio frequency identification (RFID) chip attached to its back. This chip is used to track the bees in order to study their behaviour. The bees are subjected to various pesticide doses and then released into an experimental beehive where their behaviour is compared to that of healthy bees.
