Blue sky view 5th Avenue skyscrapers, Plaza Hotel, Solow Building, from East 60th Street, Grand Army Plaza, New York City
The French Renaissance chateau-style, 20-storey Plaza Hotel opened in 1907 on the south side of Grand Army Plaza, at the south-eastern corner of Central Park. The 20-storey hotel, 76 m (250 ft) high and 120 m (400 ft) long, was made a National historic Landmark in 1986. Here we see the morning sun shining on the eastern side, rising above 5th Avenue. The tall Solow Building, behind the hotel, was built in 1974. Avon products rented over 20 floors until 1997, so this 50-storey, 210 m (689 ft) high tower is also known as the 'Avon Building'. This blue sky view is taken from the intersection of East 60th Street and 5th Avenue.
