Band of the Royal Logistics Corp marching at the Farewell to the Garrison Festival, Bordon, Hampshire, UK. Saturday 27 June 2015
Coinciding with Armed Forces Day on Saturday 27 June 2015, the Farewell to the Garrison Festival, a ceremonial and event packed day, was held in the Hampshire town of Bordon in the UK prior to the departure of the town's military personnel to Lyneham in Wiltshire later in 2015. The army's presence in the town dates back to 1903 and grew substantially in the years ahead, seeing the arrival of soldiers from REME (Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers) in 1945 followed in 1961 by the founding of SEME (School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering). With the imminent departure of the military from the town Bordon has embarked on a plan for a wholesale regeneration of the town which will include new housing, new employment opportunities, leisure facilities and other much-needed infrastructure.
