The Archbishop of Sudan, Daniel Deng Bul of The Episcopal Church of Sudan (ECS), in Juba Cathedral.

JUBA, SOUTHERN SUDAN, 7th December 2010: The Archbishop of Sudan, His Grace Daniel Deng Bul of The Episcopal Church of Sudan (ECS), at a weekday service in Juba Catherdral. The Archbishop was recently on an official visit to Khartoum where he personally counted 50 GOSS-funded buses leaving for the Upper Nile region of Southern Sudan. He estimated that approximately 1,800 southern returness were being taken back to their homeland to settle and register in the historic referendum that will decide on cessation or unity. "ECS have been working hard to educate people about the importance of the referendum and their individual votes. They must make a decision that will be fitting for them. For me personally, whatever decision I make is between me, God and my concience. "The church is an institution trusted by the community - we offer spiritual guidance and support to help poeple to make the best decisions about their future. "The region of Abyei is a potential flashpoint in the run up to voting, and we don't want to allow this country to go back to war. However, if border issues are not finlised, the issue of Abeyei is not resolved, and post-referendum conditions are not agreed, there will be conflict." Photo by Mike Goldwater / Christian Aid
