Despite the Chief Executive Carrie Lam's attempt to ease the heightened tension by agreeing to suspend the controversial bill, close to 2 million people participated in Sunday's rally, according to the organizers. The protesters called for the withdrawal of the controversial extradition bill, the release and non-prosecution of the people arrested due to the cause, investigation of whether excessive force had been used by the police on June 12, and the resignation of Carrie Lam.
