The Banqueting Hall by Inigo Jones at the Palace of Whitehall (or Palace of White Hall) at Westminster, London, and the Gate House supposedly designed by HansHolbein. It was the main residence of the English monarchs from 1530 until 1698, when most of its structures except for the Banqueting House, were destroyed by fire. It had at one time been the largest palace in Europe, with more than 1,500 rooms, before being exceeded by the expanding Palace of Versailles, which was to reach 2,400 rooms.
