Scores of whistles bade us good-bye and bonvoyage. All the way up the East River dipping flagsgave us hail and farewell. The fleet of big Soundsteamers passed us one by one, whistles saluting anddecks crowded with passengers waving Flushing, and other points, many yachts salutedwith their guns ; and it was not until night hid usthat the inspiring God-speeds of our friends and well-wishers were heard no more.
