Wing of an Airbus A320 jet plane after landing with spoilers up and flaps down for high drag. Aerodynamics and aircraft design

View of the aircraft's left wing in its landing configuration, with flaps down and spoilers up. The flaps maximise lift, enabling the aircraft to fly the approach at a slower speed so it can land in a shorter distance. The flaps also increase drag (air resistance), which helps to slow the aircraft once the engine power is cut. The spoilers are raised on touchdown to kill the wing lift by disrupting the airflow and to further increase drag.
