Before and After Hurricane Eloise (1975)

Historical images of waterfront homes on the Florida Panhandle before and after Hurricane Eloise (1975). Hurricane Eloise was the most destructive tropical cyclone of the 1975 Atlantic hurricane season. Upon making landfall in Florida, the Category 3 hurricane generated winds reportedly gusting to 155 mph, which caused extreme damage throughout the area. Hundreds of buildings were demolished by the powerful winds and strong storm surge. Across the United States, damage amounted to approximately $560 million. The storm killed 80 people along its track, and due to the severe damage, the name "Eloise" was retired from the list of Atlantic tropical cyclone names.
