The Pont de Fragnée is a monumental bridge over the Meuse River in the Belgian city of Liege. The bridge was built from 1901-1904 for the World Exhibition of 1905, which was held in Liege. The Pont Alexandre III in Paris was used as an example. During the First World War it remained undamaged, but the Second World War caused severe damage. In 1940 the bridge was blown up by the Belgian army to stop the invasion. The bridge was rebuilt according to the original design and reopened in 1948. From 1993-2000 the bridge was completely renovated and partly modernized. The bridge was designed by Emile Jacqmain and was decorated with decorative elements designed by Paul Demany. The length is meters and the bridge consists of three arches. The bridge connects the districts Guillemins, Angleur and - after crossing the Ourthe - Fétinne. The bridge is decorated with pillars, lanterns, medallions and statues provided with gilded angels. The (allegorical) images were made by Victor Rousseau. The angels symbolize the old and the new river.
