A Roman arch brought from Binchester fort reused between the nave & chancel of Escomb C7th Saxon (Anglian) church. Note the 'Escomb Fashion' megalithic long & short jamb stones & remains of a C12th fresco. Much of the original decorated plaster had fallen before the Victorian restoration & the walls were whitewashed in the 1960s. The chancel window is C19th.
