Ruins of the basilica, Curium (Kourion), Cyprus, 2001. Cyprus became a Roman province in 58 BC and became part of the Byzantine Empire in 395. Kourion was a city said to have been established by the Argives. In Roman times it was known as Curium. The early Christian basilica was built in the 5th century, but was destroyed in the 7th century.
