The bakers gave out samples, donating $30,000 to the Salvation Army bringing Entenmann's total donations to $100K. National Donut Day, the first Friday in June, was created in 1938 by the Salvation Army to honor the "donut lassies" who administered treats and solace to soldiers during WW1.
