Paris, Chez Denys Thierry, Rue S. Jacques, MDCLXXXIII [First edition, Paris, 1683]. Type: Original 17th century copperplate map. The map on the right hand side shows ancient China. The Tropic of Cancer is shown to pass through the location of the Pearl River Delta, adjacent to a town marked as "Aspithra". The left hand map shows this area in more detail, with Aspithra and the Tropic of Cancer also shown on this map. Thus the left hand map appears to show the Pearl River Delta - the location of the modern cities of Guangzhou, Shenzen & Dongguan. Hong Kong would be situated off the eastern edge of this left hand section, and Macau of the western edge.
