An earthen levee, built to contain the sewage and rain waters of the La Compania canal in Valle de Chalco, State of Mexico, Mexico broke at 2:00 am on Sunday morning, April 17, 2011, inundating a major highway and hundreds of houses in this community on the outskirts of Mexico City. Residents walk along the top of the levee. To the left is the La Compania Canal; to the right the Mexico City suburb of Ixtapaluca.
