The much larger stock varieties should be thinned out to stand 6 to 8 inches apart in rows, 2 j to 3 feet apart. Varieties marked with a star are the best for stock feeding. 232 Chantenay. This is a large thick carrot, stump-rooted and slightly tapered towards the bottom and the skin is' very smooth, orange-red in color, making it of very attractive appearance. The quality is most excellent, being very crisp, tender and of an extra fine flavor. Grow a few rows of this for winter use, as it will store well in a cool dry place.
