A practical treatise on the technics and principles of dental orthopedia and prosthetic correction of cleft palate . CHAPTER XXXV. TYPE B. DIVISION 2. CLASS II. 269 In all cases of Type B of this Division of Class II, where the facial outlinespositively indicate a protrusion of the apical zone of the front teeth, the regularbodily retruding apparatus is demanded. This is illustrated in Fig. 193, ChapterXXXVII, where will be found the technic description of the most modem methodof construction. A bodily retrusive movement of the front teeth usually requiresmore force and greater time than a bodily protrusive movement, because it isaccomplished wholly by resorption of the walls of the alveoli, acted upon by theforce. Fig. Fig. 188 was made from the plaster casts of a girl thirteen years of age. Thebeginning facial cast is distinctively characteristic of an upper bodily protrusion;but on account of the decided labial inclination of the front teeth, it was hopedthat the retruding force applied at the gingival margin would properly retrude theteeth and correct the facial outlines. It was found, however, after a partial move-ment by this method, that the protruded apical zone was brought into strongerevidence than at first, and this demanded a bodily retrusive movement, which wasaccomplished, as shown on the right, with an apparatus similar to that shown inFig. 193, Chapter XXXVII. The three stages of this very interesting case arefully described and illustrated in Chapter XXI. CHAPTER XXXVI Type C, Division 2, Class II UPPER CORONAL PROTRUSION WITH APICAL RETRUSION From causes not always possible to discover, protrusions of the crowns ofthe upper front teeth are accompanied with an easily recognized retru
