Some beautiful specimens of the roughBasset have from time to time been sentto exhibition from the Sandringham Majesty the King has always givenaffectionate attention to this breed, and hastaken several first prizes at the leadingshows, latterly with Sandringham Bobs,bred in the home kennels by SandringhamBabil ex Saracenesca. Horner, Settle. Millais. It is at least sufficiently compre-hensive and exact to serve as a guide :— The Basset, for its size, has more bone,perhaps, than nearly any other dog. The skull should be peaked like that ofthe Bloodhound, with the same dignity andexpression, the nose black (although someof my own have white about theirs), andwell flewed. For the size of the hound, Ithink the teeth are extremely small. How-ever, as they are not intended to destroylife, this is probably the reason. The ears should hang like the Blood-hounds, and are like the softest velvetdrapery. The eyes are a deep brown, and arebrimful of affection and intelligence.
