It is also found in the greater part ofthe male genito-urinary apparatus, and the gland-ducts con-nected with it; and lines the urinary passages of the femalefrom the orifice of the urethra to the beginning of the urinarytubules of the kidneys. It is composed of closely-set cells ofa conical, pyramidal, or cyhndrical form, whose apices areattached to the mucous membrane, or to flat epithelial cellslying upon it, and whose bases, which are usually terminatedby a truncated plane, are free. Each such cell encloses, atnearly mid-distance between its base and apex, a flat nucleus with nucleoli (fig. 35). Fig. 35.*. In the third variety of epithelium, cells, similar in otherrespects to the above, are provided at their free extremitieswith several fine pellucid pliant processes of cilia, which areconstantly in rapid vibratory motion, and the nature of which Fig. 35. It occurs also in the female generative apparatus, commencing about the neck of the uteruSj and extending tothe fimbriated extremities of the Fallopian tubes, and for ashort distance, along the peritoneal surface of the latter.
