Wreath laid by 508th PIR Living history Memorial erected at Wollaton park to commemorate the American 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment who camped at Wollaton in the preparation for D-Day in 1944. They parachuted into Normandy on June 6th 1944 and then returned to Wollaton that summer, prior to returning to Europe and Parachuting back into Holland on 17th September for Operation Market Garden, where their mission was to capture and secure the bridge over the Waal River near Nijmegen.
