Dinmor Quarry, Penmon, Anglesey, North Wales. Disused pit, and quarry face with buildings and tanks of now closed Bluewater Fish Farm
Looking north north west into the disused Carboniferous limestone quarry north east of Penmon. Dinmoor quarry is one of the Penmon quarries that have been worked since the sixteenth century. The quarry opened on the site of the barracks for Thomas Telford’s workmen and it was worked intermittently during the twentieth century. The quarry provided stone for the construction of the Seaforth Container Terminal from 1968. Dinmor Quarry was last used in the 1980s during the construction of the A55 north coast expressway. Some landscaping was done to make it safe and blend in with the area. It briefly became the site of the Bluewater Fish Farm which subsequently filed for insolvency. The buildings and tanks of the Fish Farm are visible in the background. On early editions of the Ordnance Survey series (Anglesey 1) dated 1889 and 1900, small-scale disused quarry features are shown. The third edition (Anglesey ) from 1919 onwards shows major quarrying works. The complex is currently disused
