Wells Cathedral west front detail


The Church of England Cathedral in Wells is the seat of the Bishop of Wells and Bath. Mouldings are known as "stiff leaf". Wells Cathedral dates primarily from the late twelfth and early thirteenth century. The west front, completed around 1250, has about 300 mediaeval statues; many were originally painted and gilded.
