Southern-crested caracara (Caracara plancus) on the ground. This bird of prey inhabits scrubland and open country across much of Central and South America, and parts of the southernmost USA. It feeds on reptiles, amphibians and other small animals, and also takes carrion. It can reach a length of nearly 60 centimetres with a wingspan of around 125 centimetre.
