Thomson has obtained results whichillustrate in a general way the manner in w^hich themore complicated systems of real atoms are likelyto behave. This seems veryconsistent with the observed properties of atoms, asexpressed by the periodic law. It is probable that the rotation of corpuscles in theatom is the cause which gives rise to light know that light waves travel with the samevelocity as electrical ones, and no one now disputesthe identity of these two kinds of waves.
