The image shows a Type 1 canister and its contents used by the Mechanical Research division of the Chemical Warfare Service during World War I. The canister consists of a body, top with a dome screen, bottom with a valve, and a slotted cooling box. It also contains several screens made of corrugated iron and copper wire, a cotton wadding pad, and springs. The photograph was taken on July 12, 1918.
