Melchior Cibinensis (fl. 1520s), Hungarian alchemist. Very little is known of Cibinensis other than from a few works. Principal among these was the Processus sub forma missae of 1525, an alchemical mass. In this image Cibinensis is shown at an altar, behind him is a vision of the Virgin Mary breastfeeding the infant Jesus, According to alchemists, the Philosopher's Stone had to be nourished with virgin's milk. This engraving comes from 'Symbola aureae' by Michael Maier, published at Frankfurt in 1617.
