A tornado is a violent, rotating column of air characterised by a funnel-shaped cloud. In the most severe tornadoes, winds travel at over 500 kilometres per hour, causing devastating damage. Photographed in Pierce City, Missouri, USA, after a tornado passed through the area on 4th May, 2003.
