On September 26th, 2017 the New York Army National (NYARNG) in cooperation with the New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services, presented a free 2 Hour disaster preparedness class at Long Beach City Hall, in the City of Long Beach, located on the South Shore of Long Island, NY. Jack Schnirman, City Manager of the City of Long Beach address the attendees before the beginning of the disaster preparedness class. Emergency preparedness is part and parcel of the New York National Guard's mission and experience, according to New York State Adjutant General, Maj. Gen. Anthony German. Participants who attended the course received a training certificate, a wallet-sized "Z-Card" with emergency preparedness information, and a free Citizen Preparedness Starter Kit (one per family), which included a first-aid kit, face mask, pocket radio with batteries, food bars, emergency blanket and other key items to help citizens in the immediate aftermath of a disaster.
