Stuarts raid, however, so alarmed General Halleck that heimmediately telegraphed Pope from Washington: Bj no meansexpose your railroad communication wdth Alexandria. It is ofthe utmost importance in sending your supplies and reinforce-ments. Pope did not fall back upon his railroad communica-tion, however, until after Jackson had seized Manassas Junction.
