Quarterly journal of experimental physiology and cognate medical sciences. iiisphere. l>, chimpanzee 4, left muncnils riter to the List of KcspuiLses, p. 148. numeral inserted in the map indicates the position of the spot whence, inthe particular hemisphere from which the map was made, that response aslisted was evoked by faradisation. The topographical item thus obtainedhas to be accepted as a datum for localisation, subject to the caven-tentered by the prefatory remarks on the functional instability of corticalmotor points. The maps show that the same numeral or letter, thesame movement, does not always appear at the corresponding point ofdifferent hemispheres, either right or left. The letters C, O, G prefixed tothe numerals in the list indicate that that particular response appearsfigured in one or more of the maps reproduced, chimpanzee, orang, andgorilla being signified by the corresponding initial. The words contra-lateral and opposite mean always contralateral, or on the oppositehalf of the body to the hemisphere Fig. 2.—Chimpanzee 6. A, left hemisphere ; the stippled area enclosed by the dotted lines togetherwith the parts of the adjacent sulci exhibit the portion of cortex ablated (see ablation ex-periment 3, p. 194). The numerals inserted in the ablated area indicate the responsesobtained before ablation, also numerals 262 and 281. The bracketed numerals (343) indicatethe responses obtained from the same points at the final experiment. B, right hemisphereof same animal reversed for comparison with left hemisphere.
