The large increase of stu-dents of philosophy, in the Fall of 1890, led to theerection of the JN^orth Western wing, which completesthe original plan of the building. The most notable event in the whole history of theSeminary occurred in the Autumn of 1885, when theFathers of the Third Plenary Council held their ses-sions within its walls. The Exercise Hall was appro-priated to that purpose, and decorated with the superbpainting of Pope Leo XIII, who presided over theaugust assembly by his legate apostolic, his EminenceCardinal Gribbons. In concluding this imperfect and very incompletesketch of St. Marys Seminary during the past hun-dred years, we cannot refrain from expressing ourearnest admiration for those self-sacrificing workerswho hore the burden of the day and the burning heat^ whobroke the ground from which their successors reap. Others have labored^ and ye have entered into their labors.^. St. Marys Seminary Chapel,Dedicated 1808.
