Twenty-two years ago I published threecases of metastatic ophthalmia in each ofwhich the disease was confined to one of these patients recovered, bnt with theloss of the eye. In one of these cases puer-peral pyaemia was the cause of the eye dis-ease ; in the other two a purulent inflamma-tion of the middle ear was the primary dis-ease. Since that time I have not seen a sin-gle case of metastatic ophthalmitis in con-nection with puerperal sepsis, which isdoubtless due to the happily increasingrarity of puerperal septic affections. Sur-gical pyaemia or septic pyaemia is not sorarely met with, but eye disease must rarelyoccur in connection with it, as I have notseen other cases than those reported, in thevarious ge
