Housing designed by Bauhaus architect Hans Scharoun on the Siemensstadt estate in the western suburbs of Berlin
In the 1920s, the fast growing Siemens factory in the western suburbs of Berlin needed housing for the workers and at the end of the decade Martin Wagner recommended six architects from the group 'Der Ring' to design the estate built between 1929-1932. This building, known as the 'Battleship', was designed by Hans Scharoun. The other architects involved in the design of the estate were Walter Gropius, Hugo Haering, Fred Forbat, Paul Rudlof Henning and Otto Bartning.
