ANTARCTICA - Wooden building ruins at the abandoned whaling station at Whalers Bay, Deception Island. Because of the cold temperatures, wood takes much longer to decompose than it does in warmer climates. Deception Island, in the South Shetland Islands, is a caldera of a volcano and is comprised of volcanic rock.
