April, 1904 RAILWAY MASTER MECHANIC 115 New Shops of the Terminal Railroad Association of St Louis at East St Louis, HE old shops of the Terminal Railroad■ Association of St. Louis, located on 16thstreet, near the Union Station, having beenoutgrown by the mechanical departmentand having become totally inadequate tomaintain the motive power equipment, thiscompany has constructed a new shop forthe repair of locomotives and the main-tenance of the few cars owned by them,just north of East St. Louis, 111. In addition to thisplant the company is erecting three new square enginehouses and a modern coaling station to be located onthe site of the old plant. These engine houses willmaintain 58 engines and facilities will be providedfor light locomotive repairs. Much interest is beingattached to this small plant on the St. Louis side ofthe river because of the adoption of square housesinstead of the round house heretofore usually three houses are served by two transfer tables,and inasmuch as most engines housed here will be usedin switching service, and the few
