The bulbs are perfect globes, blood colored, and develop with astonishing- rapidity. The foliage is longer and more vigorous than that of the Kgyptian. It is the first in market of the large-rooted sorts; it is globu- lar, sugary and tender, and by the best judges is considered unexcelled in flavor and delicac)^ by variety. It is the best Turnip-shaped Beet for family use, all things con- sidered, and we recommend it to all gardeners. A handsome wedge-shaped root, growing-well under g-round; flesh very dark blood-red, skin smooth, habit much earlier in maturity' than the old Long- Blood and only half its length.
