The bridge is near the Robert Burns memorial gardens in Alloway dedicated the the life Robert Burns famous poet and author of such songs poems of Auld Lang Syne, Red. Red, Rose, Tam O Shanter with the Brig O Moon, Burns was born in Alloway in 1759 and died in 1796 aged 37 probably of rheumatic heart failure. He is buried in Dumfries. His parents are buried in the ruin of the Auld Kirk [old church] churchyard cemetery.
